| On December 19th, 2023, surrounded by his beloved wife and seven children, Magead Wadia Salloum peacefully went to be in the arms of Jesus.
Magead was born to Wadia and Wardi Salloum, the youngest of 5 children, on February 9th, 1944, in Haifa, Palestine (now Israel). Magead was predeceased by his parents, brother Hanna (John) Salloum and his sister Mary Salloum Laktineh. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Shalhoub and his brother Munir Salloum.
Young Magead was nurtured in the Word of God at his father’s feet, in church, and later on, at the Greek Orthodox High School, where the Old Testament Scriptures were taught in the Hebrew language, giving him a profound understanding of the Holy Scriptures. He followed in his father’s footsteps, living a life of faith and prayer, preaching the Gospel for over 50 years, until the Lord called him home.
In 1967, he left Israel and came to Syracuse, NY, where he attended Onondaga Community College and met the love of his life, Beverly Marie Burke. On October 25th, 1969, Magead and Beverly began their marriage of 54 years. They built a beautiful family of seven children, Alexander Charles Salloum (Mimi Radman), Benjamin Jacob Salloum (Johanna), Rebecca Marie Rivera (Raúl), Elizabeth Rose Salloum, Daniel David Salloum (Gloria), Sara Jane McCullagh (Jesse), and Rachael Renee Goodwill (John).
Magead loved spending time with his 15 grandchildren: Natasha (Alex), Mark (Ashley), Benjamin Wadia, Alana (Misael), Izabella, Adelina, Rafael, Enrique, Penelope, Annabelle, William, Elias, Ariana, Xander and Bexley. He was overjoyed with his 6 great grandchildren: Declyn, Lennox, Misael, Emiliano, Kaia, and Arcadio. Magead was privileged to see the blessings of God pour from generation to generation.
Pastor Salloum obtained his Bachelor of Theology from International Seminary, and graduated summa cum laude, with degrees of Master of Science in Theology and Doctor of Philosophy in Theology and Biblical Studies, from Dartley University. However, the anointing of the Holy Spirit was his highest qualification.
The world was his pulpit. Reverend Salloum served as an apostle, co-founding a church in Haifa, Israel with Brother Samuel Sabah, as well as co-founding and pastoring New Testament Church in Parish and Rome, New York with his wife, Beverly. He prophesied over innumerable people throughout his ministry and brought the Good News in English, Arabic, and Hebrew across North America and to many countries throughout the world, fulfilling his commission as an evangelist. Magead taught at Grace Bible Institute, Higher Ground Ministries, International Seminary and countless cell, church and home groups. He also broadcasted the Word of God via radio, television, print and internet mediums. He served as president of the Railroad Evangelistic Association, was chairman of Power Ministries, served on the board of Christian Blind Mission International, and was clergy advisor to Syracuse Aglow.
Magead was a remarkable man of peace, as is illustrated by his name, Salloum, which means “peace” in the Arabic language. He was amazing, charming, handsome, full of love, full of life, caring, gentle, a listener, a joker, a storyteller, a motivator, a leader, a scholar, a linguist, a studier of humanity. He was truly a shepherd, not just to his flock, but to all. When you spoke with him, you felt listened to, you felt calmer and happier. What a husband; an exemplar to what a husband should be. What a father and family man. He was kind and compassionate to everyone he met. He had a cheerful spirit.
His family's deep affection for him was evident, and he was cherished by all—his wife, children, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Each and every one of them were special to him.
Magead’s love for his family and his unwavering faith in God will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched during his time on Earth.
